We generally express concern when a helpless, needy and unprotected orphan child is seen begging in the streets. Is he to be blamed for that? Certainly not because his action is not by choice but by compulsion He chooses this humiliating course of action only when he finds no other way of sustenance. Then who is to be blamed for that? Simple answer is “society”. It is pity that in spite of helping this frightened class, we do not even care to consider the seriousness of this issue and take it mere an eye wash. How apathetically we ignore this pitiable creation by dodging all moral, social and a religious norm is a question of hundred million dollars. No one is an orphan by choice but it is a fait accompli. We cannot dispose of our responsibility by neglecting this important segment of society. Being a member of society we have some moral and religious obligations towards this forsaken class. It is therefore necessary that we must pay what we owe to this neglected lot of society by rationalizing our priorities.
Allah Has ordained in the Holly Quran that helping the orphans is a blissful act. Taking this guidance from Quran and Sunnah, Khawja Muhammad Abdul Khaliq (RA) took a lead and established an orphanage and a high school at Kot Abdul Khaliq, district Hoshiarpur, East Punjab, India in 1905 under the supervision of NGO, Anjuman Khailiqia. On the creation of Pakistan this set up was shifted and re-settled at Sargodha with the name of Gehwara Khakiqia. Thereafter the NGO planned to improve the standard of schooling which necessitated the development of a wide-ranging educational project. With a view to achieving this objective 63 acres of land was purchased at Khushab road and a Project of quality education by the name of Khailiqia Educational Complex was launched in 1993 visualizing total cost of Rs 616 million. From this angle it becomes the first NGO in Pakistan committed to impart quality education to orphans and the students of poor stratum in most befitting manner where the total package of development of per orphan student per month is Rs 6500.00 First component of the Project, Khailiqia Public High School, is doing well conducting teaching aided by the multimedia and cc cameras coupled with biometric attendance of students.
Existing price escalation has placed NGO in embarrassing position and we find no way to counter it. However we are hopeful on the Mercy of Allah that He will send some generous donor, affluent person to come to our rescue and help us to make this Project a reality. Our original budget of Rs 616 million has now escalated to Rs 2.3 billion out of which we been able to spend Rs 300 million leaving a shortfall of Rs 2.00 billion or may be more. Since price hike has blocked further growth of the project so we urge the affluent and generous donors of country and from abroad to help us to alleviate our financial burden. This will amount to fulfilling our national and religious obligations for which a big reward has been prophesied by Holly Prophet SAW.
