Established in 1983 as a not-for-profit, welfare organization, Karwan-e-Hayat (KeH) was an initiative conceptualized by a handful of notable, conscientious citizens of Karachi. Dr. Zafar Qureshi, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Begum Tazeen Faridi, Professor Zaki Hassan, Ms. Anita Ghulam Ali, Dr. Abdul Husaini, Begum Shaista Ikramullah and Cardinal Joseph Cordeiro, the Archbishop of Karachi, were the earliest patrons and visionaries of their respective fields. It was their foresight which now enables, Karwan-e-Hayat to provide treatment and rehabilitation services to the most neglected, mentally ill patients in Pakistan. Karwan-e-Hayat is registered under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984 and has a tax deductible status under section 153(2) of the Income Tax Act. Furthermore, we are an ISO 9001-2015 Certified Company. We are fully Shariah-Compliant (the Islamic Authenticated way for charity) and we have also been certified by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP). Beginning from a small outpatient clinic in 1983, the organization has grown to high altitudes and today Karwan-e-Hayat has 3 centers. 1. A 100-bed inpatient hospital at Keamari which has an OPD, pharmacy and a day-care & rehabilitation department. 2. An OPD Clinic at Jami, Punjab Colony. 3. A Community Outreach Center in Korangi.
